Stage IV colon cancer

March 2006 I had a colonoscopy. They discovered a large malignant tumor. I was admitted to the hospital and had a colon resection the next day. I had lymph involvement and spread to my liver. I was 47.
No one told me this was serious. I guess a part of me didn’t want to know. Everyone kept saying “We’re going to get this”. It was almost a year later that I found out they can’t “get it”. It shocked me and I felt lied to.

But in time I have come to realize that I am no different than everyone on the planet - mortal. I am going to die. And so is everyone else. We are all going to die. No one knows what day or hour that may happen and all of us get this moment - just one at a time.

My life is good. The sun still shines on me. I found out more people love me than I knew before. I try to face each day with as much as I can bring to it. Somedays are better than others. But I have made it through 3 1/2 years of chemo therapy and shared meals, holidays and happiness along the way. I will continue my fight knowing that out there are researchers, doctors, fundraisers and an army of people who want to find a cure - for me … and all those who share my story.

My life is good. I am looking forward to tomorrow and living this day.

Don’t give in to fear and self pity. Today is YOUR day. Life is good.
